Chromate Conversion Coatings
Chromate conversion coatings (sometimes refered to by the proprietary names Alocrom, Iridite and Surfos) are very versatile surface treatments and suitable for use on aluminium. The main chromate conversion coating that we provide is the yellow ("1200") process, but we also provide the "1000" and "100" process.
Properties
- Provide increased corrosion resistance while still preserving electrical conductivity (unlike anodising) if the coating is almost colourless.
- Provide a base for painting (without the need for an etch prime) and allow bonding.
- Acceptable to use as a final finish if coating is yellow to brown
Reduction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS)
Chromate conversion coatings contain hexavalent chromium and are therefore not RoHS compliant. If you need a hexavalent chromium free coating instead, you should use our RoHS compliant conversion coating.
