Metal Finishings Ltd is very aware of its responsibility when it comes to the environment. Like all segments of industry, the surface treatments field and the rest of the engineering sector has a large role to play in reducing carbon emissions and conserving resources. Applying protective surface treatments to metal components extends their working life, resulting in energy, material and cost savings. In our efforts to reduce waste, we have begun a recycling programme and a programme of monitoring water usage in our rinses. We have already reduced our usage of potable water by about 75 tonnes per week. By continuing to implement measures to reduce rinse contamination, we hope to be able to reduce this yet further. We are in the process of considering water recycling techniques. All of our water discharge to the sewer system is treated through our automatic effluent system and kept within agreed limits. This is subject to regular monitoring by Wessex Water.
We are also encouraging our customers to move away from other hazardous substances such as hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) compounds. We fully support measures such as the Reduction of Hazardous Substances Directive.
In support of our environmental commitment, we are developing an environmental management system. You can read our environmental policy online.
